Kheda Satyagraha (1917)

The Kheda Satyagraha took place in the Kheda district of Gujarat in 1918.It has significant effect on India’s struggle for independence.  The main aim of kheda satyagraha is to stop violence done by the Britishers on farmers , like charging high taxes. The Kheda Satyagraha was started on 22 March 1918 and it last in 5 June 1918. Due to the plague and cholera the whole crops destroy , after that the farmers community had refused to pay the high tax, i.e., 23% tax.

Many leaders play a role in kheda Satyagraha but main leader of the whole movement is Mahatma Gandhi. The main follower of Mahatma Gandhi during this movement is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Causes of the Kheda Satyagraha
